Happy October everybody! I had a very busy September! Between the 2 speeches I gave – one at PCY and the other at the LAPFC opening ceremonies – my yard sale, and launching the Buy-A-Brick campaign at PCY, we have made quite a bit of money the last few weeks. My two public speaking experiences last month were great and I think they were important to raise awareness for the cause. I really enjoy public speaking. I believe that it brings out the best of us, and the best of the people watching. When I am speaking I try to help my audience remember the important things in life. For example, that we need to help each other, that we can make a difference, and to be thankful for all we have. I don’t like to write my speeches down because I don’t want to have to remember exactly what I am going to say and have to use notes. When I don’t have notes I think I look more professional and more genuine. I do get nervous beforehand. The hardest part is starting. Once I start to speak I start feeling less nervous and when I finish, I feel like I am on top of the world. My next public speaking opportunity will be at USC on November 4 where I be co-hosting a lecture by Ethan Zohn, Survivor winner and co-founder of Grassroot Soccer. I look forward to hearing from him about how he has used soccer to help others so that I may use some of his strategies in my work. RSVP to join me HERE. We are now only $1,500 away from our $10,000 goal for the end of 2014, so we will need to have another big event before the year ends. We are not exactly sure what this will be but I’m sure we can come up with something fun. If you have any ideas on events/ fundraisers/ etc. please feel free to share with me, as I really appreciate it.
